42 POUNDS LIGHTER — Rick Juchems of rural Plainfield celebrates his weight loss with Dawn Wiegmann RN, director of wellness and health promotion at the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center. His prize as the biggest loser in a 12-week Begin! program was a new T-shirt proclaiming, “Body by God … Maintenance by The W.” An eight-week session of the program will begin June 10.

Other Programs
Survivor Care: Almost 1.3 million Americans are expected to be diagnosed this year with cancer, the nation’s second-leading killer according to the American Cancer Society. This program will provide exercise for cancer patients with minimal amount of strength conditioning, combined with flexibility training and aerobic exercise. Depending time frame of chemotherapy or radiation the program will have daily walks, the use of fitness balls and dumbbells with resistance from rubber tubing. Classes can vary in length and structure and will be personalized per each person, contact Dawn Wiegmann RN at 352-8437 or dawn.wiegmann@wartburg.edu for your first assessment (you will need to bring in your papers from your Physician).
Heart Happy: The number one killer in the United States is cardiovascular disease according to the American Heart Association. There are 61.8 million Americans recovering from a stroke or heart failure, or suffering from high blood pressure, heart defects, hardening of the arteries and other diseases of the circulatory system. Depending what stage of Disease you have or when you’re finished with cardiac rehab Heart Happy can assist you with the bridge from the clinical setting to your mainstream workouts. Contact Dawn Wiegmann RN 352-8437 or dawn.wiegmann@wartburg.edu for your initial assessment, (bringing in your information from your Physician). Researchers say strength workouts give patients the stamina they need to move through their daily routines, and it has been shown to reduce demands on the heart when carrying on day to day activities.
